Entering the 1900's Conshohocken was making its mark on the international market with companies such as Lee Tires and Alan Wood Steel Company leading the way. The 1 square mile borough had nearly 10,000 residents at the time to keep the mills and factories running at full capacity. These people needed places to eat and shop and there were many mom and pop type shops set up along the boroughs roads. Over time, the industry of the town has changed, thanks in large part to some forward thinking people. The "rebirth" of Conshohocken has taken place for close to fifty years, not just the past 20 years or so when some of these large commercial office buildings were built. Once the mills and factories that provided many jobs for years started to close and downsize, Conshohocken's borough council looked into options for the future and the office buildings that line the river and surrounding areas are it. In addition to these office buildings, a new wave of housing is being built along the same river that provided jobs to many people over the years. The new wave of residents moving into the borough will find out why so few people move out of the small town. There is truly a small town feeling about Conshohocken. Neighbors help each other out in the snow, and the many small businesses around town help them out as well. There are many retail and professional businesses in and around town that seem to have what the people need. Whether its getting your oil changed while at work, or a quick lunch break at one our great eateries Conshy pronounced CUN-SHE by the locals has a lot to offer. |

The 19428 zip code is attracting new residents and businesses each day. With our strategic location along the river and major highways, raw materials easily flow into and out of the town. For the residents and businesses alike these highways offer up endless possibilities. For local businesses it means more traffic flow and an easier way to get your product to different areas, for the residents, you are an hour and a half away from the shore or the mountains. In 2006 a group of small businesses got together and reformed an organization to help each other and the people of Conshohocken out. By reforming the Greater Conshohocken Merchants and Professional Association the group hopes to continue business growth in and around Conshohocken in order to provide more services and shopping to the residents of the borough. These area businesses support local little leagues and provide employment to many area residents. By supporting these businesses you support your town and neighbors who own and work at these places of business. As history has shown us, it takes both large and small business to support a town and its residents. Let's keep Conshohocken strong and vibrant for our generation and those to come. |
